Alfonso’s thesis aimed to develop and utilize dual ratiometric biosensors for investigating nitrogen transport in plants.  His worked has been based on previously characterized plant transporters and which have been further validated using the yeast heterologous system to confirm their function. The new sensor prototypes are aimed to provide deeper insights into nitrogen transport in non-model plant  species and advance our understanding of nutrient dynamics in specific ecosystems.
